WYSE Days 4 and 5 Review

Better late than never on these right?

Day 4: Wednesday June 29

June 29th marked the fourth day of WYSE 2016, after breakfast and  a long bus ride we arrived at the National Geographic Society. we were ushered into seats in their large Grosvenor Auditorium where we listen to a panel of wonderful NatGeo employees who are actively changing the world with their fields. I had the honor of introducing Kaya Ensor, who spends her time as a wildlife filmmaker. After this informative panel we had a quick lunch in their cafeteria before heading to their museum and viewing their “Greeks” exhibit. Sadly as this was a temporary exhibit I couldn’t take any pictures.

After a quick drive we arrived at George Mason’s Arlington campus. We followed with a quick color group meeting before  we were led into their Mason Arlington Auditorium for a meeting with George Mason’s Dean of Admissions Amy Takayama-Pere. She explained what colleges are looking for and what classes to value over others (Honors vs AP).

We then had a color group dinner before going to our meeting with Lois Marie Gibbs. She discussed her work at the CHEJ and during the environmental health movement. After our keynote speaker we headed to our concurrent speaker sessions. I chose to go to Changwoo Ahn who is an associate professor at George Mason University. He discussed his work with EcoScience+Art as well as his floating wetland project.

Day 5: Thursday June 30

June 30th marked the fifth day at WYSE 2016, after an early breakfast we left on our way to our nation’s Capitol. The morning was filled with pictures on capitol hill. After the pictures were done i had some time to explore before my congressional meeting. during this time i explored the botanical gardens. I then promptly arrived at legislative assistant Christopher Santini’s office. (a blog about my meeting with him will be posted later). After my meeting i discovered a Subway inside the Rayburn Building. After i purchased my tasty lunch i traveled to the National Art Gallery. After seeing some wonderful artwork and heading back to the meeting location we headed back to GMU to prepare for the gala.

The gala was held at the Westfields Marriott and lasted until 11pm. we had a wonderful dinner prior and i met some wonderful people.

Until next time
